Greenwood announces plan, initial design for first phase of Madison Ave. corridor improvements
Plans include streetscape enhancements, widened sidewalks and elevated bicycle lane

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The City of Greenwood yesterday provided a first look at details and renderings for a number of improvements planned for Madison Ave., one of the city’s major north-south corridors and a key component of Greenwood’s vision for the future of its downtown.

The re-envisioned Madison Ave. includes pedestrian-friendly widened sidewalks, a dedicated, separated bicycle lane, and various streetscape enhancements.

“Greenwood’s downtown transformation is in full gear,” said Mayor Mark W. Myers. “This project is another step toward improved walkability and connectivity into and throughout downtown and continues our emphasis to improve – both logistically and aesthetically – Greenwood’s major corridors.”

On Tuesday, city officials unveiled the plan to the Greenwood Redevelopment Commission (RDC), which will now consider a contract with Indianapolis-based Rundell Ernstberger Associates to complete a final engineering design for the project’s first phase. The initial phase stretches from Pearl St. to Noble St. A final decision will be made during next month’s RDC meeting.

A final design for the first phase of the Madison Avenue improvements would be completed in 2017, with construction expected to begin in 2018.
