GREENWOOD, Ind. – City leaders and Indiana State Police (ISP) officials gathered this morning to celebrate the opening of ISP’s new hangar at Indy South Greenwood Airport. In addition to the Aviation Section, ISP’s Special Operations Section will be stationed at the airport.

In early 2019, ISP and the City of Greenwood finalized an agreement that included the new hangar – with office space – for the ISP Aviation and Special Operations Sections and personnel. ISP and city officials broke ground on the hangar last June.

“A number of factors contributed to the decision to locate in Greenwood,” said Doug Carter, Superintendent of the Indiana State Police. “Top of the list is this is an ideal location with nearly all the infrastructure in place to meet our operational needs to serve not only state police aviation needs, but the needs of our law enforcement partners across the state.” Carter concluded, “We are confident this is the beginning of a strong and enduring partnership with the City of Greenwood and Indy South Greenwood Airport.”

“Indy South Greenwood Airport continues its impressive growth and has become a significant driver of economic development in both Greenwood and Johnson County,” said Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers. “We are happy to offer the Indiana State Police a convenient location for such a critically important component of Hoosier law enforcement.”

Construction of the new hangar was completed this spring, and ISP recently finished moving personnel and its aviation fleet to the new location.

Indy South Greenwood Airport welcomes and services both local and transient aircraft, jets, pistons and turbines. It hosts two flight schools, aircraft rental services and two aircraft maintenance facilities, providing 24-hour customer service.
