Greenwood releases site plan for new Mrs. Curl location
New sidewalks, turn lane addition, outdoor seating highlight improvements to area surrounding intersection at Main and Meridian Streets
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Earlier this year, Mrs. Curl Ice Cream Shop announced plans to build a larger, year-round location just north of where the Greenwood icon has called home for more than 50 years. City of Greenwood officials today provided more detail for public improvements to the surrounding area, including renderings and a site plan showing both the new Mrs. Curl location and planned projects.
The new Mrs. Curl building will have a second outdoor sales window, year-round indoor seating and an outdoor playground for kids. Public projects include an additional turn lane on Meridian St., new, wider sidewalks, a new traffic signal and stormwater infrastructure upgrades.
The Greenwood Redevelopment Commission (RDC) gave approval for city officials to purchase two properties (301 S. Meridian St. and 21 E. Main St.) late last year, paving the way for public improvements and the Mrs. Curl expansion. The new site plan will be discussed at the RDC’s March meeting this evening.
Given the popularity of Mrs. Curl and other businesses in the area, Greenwood believes additional parking, wider sidewalks and other site improvements are welcome additions for both business owners and their patrons. City officials have worked closely with Mrs. Curl, consulting owners throughout the planning process.
“This project addresses a short-term need but also fits into our vision for the future for downtown Greenwood,” said Myers. “Walkability, safe pedestrian access and congregation, connectivity – this is the formula for a successful downtown, and we’re going to keep identifying and pursuing opportunities to revitalize the heart of Greenwood.”
