GREENWOOD, Ind. – Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers today accepted an oversized check from Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (IMPO) Executive Director Anna Gremling representing $2,035,125 in federal funds, which will help pay for a roundabout at Smith Valley and Averitt roads. The funding will be available for use in 2024.
“This funding from IMPO will be instrumental for the continued improvement of our city’s infrastructure,” said Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers. “Greenwood is growing rapidly, meaning infrastructure, such as roundabouts, will continue to be a top priority to ensure our residents can get where they need to go quickly and smoothly with as little traffic as possible along the way.”
“It’s always a very competitive process, and this year there were 72 proposed projects. Greenwood’s project was among 30 that rose to the top,” IMPO Executive Director Anna Gremling said. “Building and maintaining infrastructure is one of the local government's biggest challenges, and one of the ways they make a critical contribution to regional and state economies.”
As part of an annual funding process, Greenwood planners submitted projects for consideration by the IMPO, which is responsible for planning and programming federal transportation funds in the eight-county Central Indiana region. Projects are judged based on criteria including impacts to air quality, improvements to congestion, safety, pavement quality and more.
Greenwood was one of 15 communities and agencies in the region selected to receive federal funds.
The total project cost is $2,261,250, with 80% – $2,035,125 – of it coming from federal funding through the IMPO.
