GREENWOOD, Ind. – Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers announced today that the city has received funding from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) to make several infrastructure improvements in 2023.
Operating under INDOT’s Community Crossings Matching Grant Program to upgrade and enhance roadways, the city will receive $1 million to complete paving projects in the Forest Park subdivision, partial reconstruction of Alexander Street, full reconstruction of Kensington Park Road, and a structural overlay of Averitt Road. The City of Greenwood will contribute an additional $1 million for a total estimated cost of $2 million for all the projects.
“Infrastructure is a vital component for Greenwood’s continued growth and economic development, providing the often-under-appreciated foundation that connects us and keeps our city running,” said Myers. “As one of the fastest growing cities in the state, it is crucial we invest in our public assets, scale infrastructure appropriately and continue to prioritize the work it takes to help us become a more connected city, improve our walkability and quality of life.”
Additional improvements will include installation of underdrains, new concrete curb, updated driveway approaches, and more. Most projects will begin in the spring, including partial or full reconstructions, structural overlays, or mill, patch and overlay work on the following streets:

Indiana’s Community Crossings Matching Grant Program launched in 2016, allowing municipalities to apply for grants that allow for improvements to roads and bridges. This will be Greenwood’s sixth year as a municipal partner. INDOT has awarded the city approximately $5.6 million for road improvements.
Last year, Greenwood utilized $545,107 in matching funds, which completed full reconstruction projects of Meridian Meadows Boulevard from SR 135 to the Greenwood city limits and Stokley Boulevard from Polk Street to Polk Village Road. Funding also allowed the city to perform a structural overlay of Pushville Road from US 31 to the railroad tracks and apply reclamite, which is an asphalt pavement rejuvenating agent, to Worthsville Road from CR 75 E to Graham Road.
In 2022, Greenwood also performed work under the annual paving program, funded 100% locally. The program saw partial or full reconstruction of Meadow Drive, Kensington Park Court, Broadway Street, Patterson Street and various alleyways. The project also allowed for intersection improvements at US 31 and Stop 18.
