The Greenwood Parks and Recreation team and city leaders are preparing the community for the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8. Residents will see changes in parking and open space management to accommodate eclipse viewing opportunities.
This unique occurrence will draw many visitors to the area as Greenwood will experience almost four minutes of totality from 3:05:52 to 3:09:54 p.m. Viewers are encouraged to take precautions and use appropriate glasses during partial and complete totality.
The City of Greenwood encourages residents to plan their eclipse experience well in advance. Craig Park, Freedom Park and Old City Park will be open and provide clear space for observing the changes in the sky. If you are within walking distance of these parks, using the walking trails or bike paths is recommended as driving may be difficult.
City-owned parking lots will have special event parking rates associated with them for the eclipse. The City will be instituting a fee of $20 per vehicle for the parking lots listed below only on Monday, April 8. Portable toilets will be available at the listed locations. Lots open at 6 a.m. on the morning of the eclipse. No oversized vehicles or RVs will be permitted. Parking lot fees will be lifted once all phases of the eclipse are finished.
