Greenwood announces outdoor holiday lighted trail, cancels KiD CiTY Christmas and Breakfast with Santa

GREENWOOD, Ind. –Out of an abundance of caution to help mitigate and slow the spread of COVID-19, the City of Greenwood today announced the cancellation of two annual holiday events: KiD CiTY Christmas and Breakfast with Santa.

“As cases continue to rise in Indiana and around the nation, we are encouraging residents to keep holiday gatherings to limited numbers,” said Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers. “Both of these city events were to take place indoors and typically attract hundreds of attendees, so we’ve made the tough decision to cancel. Our top priority continues to be the health and safety of Greenwood residents and visitors, and we will remain aligned with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Indiana State Department of Health.”

The Greenwood Parks & Recreation Department, in partnership with Duke Energy, is providing an outdoor and socially distant holiday lighted trail throughout the Amphitheater Park starting Dec. 5. Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the park and safely tour the lights with their families and friends. The lights will be on from dusk to dawn throughout the holiday season.

“Our hope is to continue to provide socially distant and safe activities for residents and visitors during the holiday season,” said Greenwood Parks & Recreation Director Rob Taggart. “The holiday lighted trail is just the first of many safe options for our community. We are currently planning several virtual opportunities for holiday fun and look forward to sharing more information when those plans are finalized.”
